Can't seem to keep front of coach cool

This is our first summer with the coach so what I describe may be normal.

We are at a campground in Ky, no shade on the coach, 94 degrees outside. the front of our coach won't seem to cool below 78 and the front ac runs constantly. The mid and rear ac thermostats stay at 75 and the units cycle on and off occasionally.

I pointed my laser thermometer at the vents. The front mid and rear ac's all were providing air into the coach at ~55 degrees.

I have the day shades down and I have the day night and a sheet of reflectix agains the front window.

Again, may be the nature of the beast just thought I would ask.

I also have external windshield shades that help (in addition to the Reflectix). One other thing you can check is the dash air normally defaults to "outside venting" which leaves an air path open. You can temporarily block that path with a piece of Reflectix across the 2 rectangular vents on the dash A/C unit (outside above genset under cowl).

If the front of the coach is getting direct sunlight it will be difficult to keep the front cool. Our coach does the same thing.

Internal shades will help a little but there will be heat generated as the light comes through the windshield. We have 2 of the large internal shades, they type that collapse, they do a better job at limiting the heat from coming in. External shades are a better option.

Are the reflectix shade on the outside of the windshield? It wont work if they are on the inside.

Reflectix will work on the inside but the Reflectix must be as close as possible to the glass .... minimal air gap.

A LOT of heat penetrates the glass, even if you've got the shades down. I also have heard (have not confirmed though) our front caps aren't well insulated (although the rest of the coach is) as evidenced by how warm the front cabinets interiors are when our coach is in direct full sun.

The ideal fix is to put a MagneShade on the outside so the heat isn't penetrating. We don't have a MagneShade so I keep both the cockpit day & night shades down (sides too) & use a small floor fan to circulate the air from the cooler mid section up front. I also deploy all window & roof awnings (as winds permit) to keep as much sun off the windows & coach sides as possible. Even then the front AC cycles way more than the mid or rear does.

We had that problem a few years ago in Redding, CA when it was 100+. We found placing a cheap 20" box fan so that it pulls air from the back and throws it up front helped tremendously. Magma Shade, Reflectix, etc. will all help but moving the cooler air from the rear to the front helps the most as it allows the rear A/C to keep running and help cool the front.

One more vote on the Magnashade. It keeps more heat out of the front on the coach than day and night shades combined.

We have a shade in the windshield, and also a curtain that goes floor to ceiling just rearward of the front entry door.

If we use both, the coach stays cooler, but of course then we lose the front few feet of space. Don't use both often, but on super hot days it helps.

Can't seem to keep front of coach cool

A Magnashade or similar reduces the heat considerably. Our coach when parked at home faces due east so it gets a lot of sun in the morning. With the front outer sun screen in place my temp monitor shows about a 5 degree drop at the dash area. The outer screen is used in conjunction with an MCD night shade. I also tend to have a 5-10 degree temp range from mid Coach to the dash area(temp sensor is mounted below front TV).

You are only 3 degrees warmer up front with all that glass? I would say that's pretty normal. Install exterior glass shade like others said and that issue will become a nonissue.
Our bedroom is also the easiest section to cool due to all the glass up front.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I was in contact with Magna shades last week and will be ordering a shade on Monday. Glad to know it will help with the issue. Thanks again for taking the time to respond to me.

Another positive for the Magneshade. I also have shades for the side windows which also makes a huge difference. Even with that I find our front is a little warmer just due to the huge amount of glass up front which does not insulate as well as the walls and ceiling but our front AC does cycle on and off. As for insulation, there is none in the front cap above the windshield. it's a pretty easy job to remove the backs of the front cabinets and stuff some insulation batts in the front cap void. That makes a big difference both in heat and in sound insulation when driving.

Also, when you order your MagneShade, order a second installation pole. I have found it's much easier to install with two poles because the weight of that large shade pulls it down from just one corner magnet. Using two poles you can get it to grab onto two or three magnets at the same time.
