CCC Question

I am shopping for a gas motorhome in the 29-33 foot size. One thing I have consistently noticed is the Winnebage/Itasca has a greater CCC that is greater than comparable makes and models of the same size. Some like the Tiffin but the CCC of the W/I is twice that of a Tiffin. Fleetwood, about 25 plus greater, Thor, Forest River and Newmar about 25%-50% range. Can anybody she any light on what this it is? I know some use different sizes of the Ford Chassis and count for some of the weight, but does not explain all of it. Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

Depending on the amenities, options, furnishing, fixtures, flooring and other equipment, some motorhomes given the coach features will weigh more than others given the same length. For example, in my Winnebago, I have approximately 1,800 lbs. worth of CCC whereas a similar length Newmar Mountain Aire will have a CCC of 600 lbs.

One feature that will improve the CCC performance is to get a heavier rated chassis as you have already noted. You may be able to order a motorhome with a heavier chassis if it's a SKU on the order sheet.

Not really knowledgeable on all the tech stuff about ccc, but a Tiffin 32CA should hold up better than most of the ones your looking at. Dave

You did not state the actual ccc, but my 31' Newmar Baystar is a 20,500# gvw, 17,186 unladen weight for a ccc of 3314. That is more than a lot of others in this size range.
