Charge coach batteries

The invertor on my 2012 Phaeton has failed with the message AC backfeed. I need to charge the six coach batteries which are wired with a disconnect switch. Where do I attach the red and black connecting clips of a remote charger ? Thanks.

Here is a good reference. There are 6-6volt batteries. See the cables in between the batteries with one end marked red and the other end marked black? These take 2-6 volt batteries and stacks them up (in series) to make a 12 volt battery. So, picture wise, we have 3 stacks of two batteries each. Each stack is 12 volt. Now, see all the red cables connecting the three stacks together, and at the other end, you see the black cables connecting the three stacks together? These take the 3-12 volt stacks and connects them together (in parallel) to give you more amperage. These are your + and - of your big 12 house battery. On these you'll have a long red and a long black cable running off to your inverter. You can connect your 12V charger to where the long red and black (inverter) cables connect to the batteries. Think of all the batteries now as one big 12V battery. I would also flip the inverter off and flip the house disconnect switch so you're not trying to also run everything while charging. As a side note, if the batteries were drained completely, their lifespan has been shortened. Hope this helps and safe travels.

Try resetting the inverter switch. There is a switch near the inverter. Turn it off and then turn it back on.

Thanks. Tried that and tried a hard reboot by disconnecting both chassis and coach batteries with no luck.

There should be a reset button right on your inverter. Along with an LED to indicate status. Also would help to know your inverter type/model.

I have reset using the button on the inverter several times. The
fault message disappears but returns when plugged into shore power or when the generator is turned on. The inverter is a Magnum ME 3000 series.

Hoping others may chime in after posting your model. I'm at a standstill.

The inverter is sensing AC voltage on its output when attached to the generator or shore power. Any wiring changes or new devices plugged in?

Power converter

Do you have a power converter? It will interfere with inverter when on. You inverter should be off when shore or generator is running. They produce ac. The inverter provides ac when running coach soley off batts

Thanks to all. I have been able to clear the fault but it recurs whenever I plus into shore power or run the generator. Have been successful at charging the coach batteries with an external charger. We are in the midst of an extended rv adventure in the SE and will get the issue fixed when we get back to WI as I cannot find anyone willing to work on it without a wait of at least 3 to 4 weeks.

The final story is that upon return home, it was determinedly that the inverter had failed and was replaced. All seems to be good at this time. Too bad that none of the shops along the way were interested in fixing the problem for us. Guess that they could all afford to pass on making a few bucks.
