Difference between a RED and Phaeton

Looking at a RED 34QFA vs Phaeton and was wanting to know what would be the difference as far as chassis, motor,AC and any other things I should know.

Thanks.....

That was from 2015 - That is all the Tiffin web site has. I know there are a few changes, but it's a starting point.

We are looking at a 2012 QFA RED but no particular Phaeton, just wondered what we would be giving up for the RED vs the Phaeton of equal value other than the obvious years difference. From the list eprman1 posted the only thing I notice is single pane glass, I'm sure there is much more.

And

possibly more basement storage
pass through storage
towing capicity
larger generator
adjustable foot pedals
solar panels
flush mount windows
2 vs 3 larger ACs
Aqua-hot system vs WH

But again - this is the 2015 comparison. I do not know when all of the options started.

The Phaeton is kind of like going from a Toyota to a Lexus - made by the same company, but with better quality parts, more of a 'rich' feel to it, and yes - more $$$$

We looked at the RED yesterday, one thing I did notice is although this one has the upgraded 8.0 generator it doesn't have the slide out like on the Phaeton. It also has the 15,000 A/C with heat pump. I forgot to ask if the RED has a jake or exhaust brake. Are those standard or an option?

I know nothing about those products, so my comment is about reference to single-pane glass. If you live in Illinois and have single pane glass, you won't enjoy either the weather or outside noise.

Never accept single pane glass on large windows.

We have a RED, and the Phaeton is the next step up in terms of luxury and performance. In many areas where we have vinyl tile or vinyl wall paper, the Phaeton has real tile. We have the ISB motor and the Allison MT2500 trans which limits towing capacity to 5,000 pounds. Fine for a smaller toad, but not for an enclosed trailer. The Phaeton has the 380 HP ISL, which has a lot more torque and can tow up to 10,000 pounds. The RED does have most of the amenities that the Phaeton has, in terms of tank sizes, washer/dryer, 8K generator, 15,000 BTU Heat Pumps, entertainment center, etc. They both will hold the same amount of stuff, and the basements sizes are the same. That said, I do like the Phaeton, but probably wouldn't trade my RED for one.

Hi PushedAround and thank you for the information. Does your RED have the exhaust/jake brake?

Yes, the Variable Vane Turbo closes to provide an exhaust brake. Here is a manual on the engine if you are interested.

And that really sums it up. Isn't chassis, build construction and mechanicals basically the same? Yes, bigger AC, generator, dual pane windows, clay tile, and other upgrades and options make it different and more costly.

If the RED has an ISB engine and the Phaeton has an ISL and an Allison 3000 transmission, I don't know how you can say that the chassis is basically the same. The ISB has ~600 ft lbs of torque and the ISL has roughly twice that. Regardless of the horsepower rating, that's a huge difference. Furthermore the ISL is capable of having a compression brake, the ISB is not. The difference between a compression brake and an exhaust brake is, again, huge.

There may be lots of differences in "floss" between the two MH's, but there clearly are significant chassis differences as well.
