Looks like a start capacitor to me. You should have 2 on each unit, a start cap and a run cap. But then, I've been wrong before.

OK! I gotta ask, . .....how long has the unit not worked or did you just buy the MH...
If the start capacitor is missing , there should be a couple of loose wires kicking around in that unit...

That looks like what is called a Hard Start Kit, which is an extra boost capacitor hooked parallel to the start capacitor to give an extra kick to the compressor when starting. Chances are the one AC that has one had a start problem at one time and this was added. It's probably time to add one to the other unit.

garykk, I just traded for this motorhome last month. I am going through the electrical systems now figuring out what works and what doesn't...and to further solidify the lucidity of your post....YES!!! there were lots of loose wires up there...luckily I didn't do any damage to the control boards.(whew!!)

By the pictures you had on your post it is a capacitor. Your a/c would normally have one or two of them. Since your picture shows only two terminals it would be either a start or a run capacitor as I could not make out the mfd ratings to determine which one it is. Some capacitors have three terminals which would be a start/run combination unit.

It's a capacitor for when your A/C starts that helps correct the line power factor when your compressor kicks in and starts running. You can get a new one from your A/C manufacturer or any good sized camper store that sells parts.

ok I got it guys...found the replacement parts online....should be up and running in no time...or when it's time to NOT use ac and use heat instead....lol
My mind is funny like that...I usually concentrate on fixing things that don't need fixing, only so I can neglect the things that truly need attention!

Cranemec, who the heck taught YOU anything? You don't know what you are talking about, it's obviously a "Whatchamacallit!" I just replaced one on my heat pump last month.
Sheese, some people don't know ANYTHING!

Plastic capacitors with an air vent are designed for intermittent use = start capacitor.
