Picking up our '05 Bus on Monday. When I asked why the entry door didn't lock in the open position, the salesman said that a lot of coaches now don't have that feature. (All the Monaco's I looked at do!) I ask, "how do you keep the door open, when you want just the screen door open?" He says...well, you could jamb a block into the hinge gap of the outer door.

I suppose I could, but that seems sort of, um, 'ghetto', for a coach that costs this much! What are others doing that don't have the door that latchs open?

Don't believe that salesman. He just wants to sell you the coach, not fix it. Both my 2004 Allegro Bus and my 2007 had doors that stay open. There is a detent mechanism that holds it in the full open position. Apparently the one on the '05 that you're looking at has a broken one and he's just giving you the old "they all come that way" story to sidestep the issue.

Thanx Cruiser.

I'm afraid it's on my nickel now. I can't see anything unusual on the door that looks broken or not quite right. Dunno what to do next to take care of it myself.

Aime,
He was talking about the entry door to the bus, thanks though.

They sell at any RV parts, the mechanism that you screw-in in place. About $10, but depends on the model . I would go for the chrome one, more solid, but it is your call.

I would never use a block in the jamb to hold the door open, if someone pushed it, or a big wind came along it could spring your jamb out of rack. Now you got a real problem. IMHO the salesman is goofy. Talk to the service manager about it.

The detent mechanism should be inside the door near the top. It may be a real simple thing to repair.

Gary,

If you have not fixed it yet, try calling Tiffin service department (256.356.0261) in Red Bay. They can tell you what's wrong (I'll bet Cruzer is right), how to fix it and get you the right part. Helps to have your serial number ready when you call. They'll ask for it.

Thanks for asking. What I did was to push up on the metal bracket some. That seemed to cause it to stay in an open position with a rather weak detent. Good for now. I'll take your advice if it won't stay put reasonably.

Thanx again,

Gary

You guys are ahead of me. Things on my coach generally have one of two conditions, they work or their broke. If they work, I use them; if their broke, I call somebody that knows what their doing to unbroke them. At this stage in my life, I just want to use things, not fix them. Besides, I don't fit under things like I did 100 lbs ago. Don't hesitate to call Red Bay, they are really great people there.
