Engine power

Just drove a 2005 37ft Allegro Bay Tiffin yesterday. Workhorse Chassis and a Vortec 8.1 engine. Did not seem to have as much power as I had anticipated. However, I did go up a 6% grade. Any thoughts? I am new to RV'ing. Thanks, Nise52

B-in-L had a 35', 05 Allegro Bay,8.1, and it was ok for power, he did a cross continent tour with his.
Things to watch for , very low CCC ( Cargo Carrying Capacity ) the W-22 chassis under those coaches 35 & 37 ft. was nearly overloaded from the factory and he was always loaded to the GVWR when traveling.
There is lots of room to carry your stuff , but no weight capacity to handle the load.
Brake recall, there have been 2 on that chassis.
For a Class A of that length you should look for a minimum of 2500 lbs CCC.
If memory serves ( he sold 3 years ago ) his was 1200.
Check the weight sticker, usually in the back of a cupboard or closet, like the picture below.

Engine is good, but go into deal knowing that GM doesn't build engine anymore. So if price is right, it could be a good deal. Dave

I have the same chassis under a pace arrow 37c.
Love it, will Handel what we need for a week or more 4 massive dogs and us. Will also handle the toad or trailer loaded with bikes.
Do not go into the deal expecting same power dispersal as a DP and you will be just fine.
Think of it more as a Mid 70's Cadillac !!

Thanks for all the info. Still working the deal!!!! If all works out my 94yo Mom wants to see as much of the West as possible. We'll be full timing as I am now retired. Three 4-pawed kids to travel with. Bark is best security system. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Grateful to this forum. Nise52
