Entry Door Hard To Open

New RV and entry door sticks when you open it from the inside mostly not to bad from the outside. Just got it back from the dealer for some warranty work. They fixed the door and worked perfectly at dealership. Drove the RV back to storage and the same problem came back very hard to open from the inside. Took a short look at the door and I think the screen door rubs on the washers on the latching bolt. Any clues on how to fix it.

Is the MH setup "level" at the storage area? Is the door true and straight from top to bottom. Use a 48" builder's level or some such known straightedge to confirm the door is not "warped" top-to-bottom on the strike side of the door. Then you might try examineing these:

1. Apply some colored crayon, ink, lipstick to the washer edge and close the screen door. Usually it has an half inch setback & makes no contact with the bolt washer. [I doubt if this is your source.]

2. Look at the hinge side. Inspect the gasket for uniforimity. Pull the gasket back so that you can examine the hinges & their screws. Make sure all hinges are snug with no extra "play" movement. Broken screw heads will reveal an anomaly that some have found [item #3]:

3. Next check the screen door-to-main door frame: see if the screen door bolt heads are mating-up with the recessed holes in the other. Any paint chipping will point out where the two door frames are making contact and causing a 'spring-loaded" effect that you must overcome in closing the door. Most owners resort to slamming the door hard, in order to get a solid latching.

4. Use the old gasket test by closing the door onto a dollar bill & tug at it to see if the gasket is uniformly snug all around. I would expect a very tight seal near the strike bolt.

5. The strike bolt is adjustable in an oversized hole in the frame. Loosing-up the bolt will allow it to freely float in any direction. I would not suggest that you tinker with it as it might be very hard to reposition it later [unless you trace an outline on the frame of the washer with a fine-tip pen, ].

Let us know what you uncover...
