Entry steps

Just picked up our NTU 2014 Phaeton 36 GH and are on our journey home. First night with hook ups. Turned off the breaker and unplugged, and now the entry steps aren’t working. Any suggestions?

Button bumped that makes them automatic?

Start your engine with the door closed and see if they retract.

Don't extend or don't retract?

Locate the step switch in the door jam (it's the push button), turn the step switch on (in the switch panel by the door), and push the button in. The steps should retract. Let go of the button and the steps should extend.

This switch often needs to be shimmed to get it to work properly. You can add shims to the door jam area to get the door to retract when the door closes.

they shouldn't extend if the motor is running (safety switch) so you don't drive off with them open. someone correct me if i'm wrong

Probably should extend if the door is opened even with the engine running.

With the door switch in the on position, the steps should extend when the door opens and retract when the door closes - regardless of what the engine is doing. With the engine off, the door opening and closing will continue to operate the steps in the same manner until the switch is set for Steps Off. Then the steps will remain out.

Starting the engine with the steps out will cause them to retract - regardless of the switch position.

If the steps do not come out when you open the door, start looking at the push button switch mounted in the door jamb (side of the door pointing forward). It can be other things, but it usually this switch.
