Extended Warranties or Insurance

Just wondering if any Phaeton owners have extended warranties on their rigs and if they have had to use them. We purchased a 2009 Phaeton from a private party so no warranty came with it. We haven't had any problems, but have been looking at the cost of extended service contracts through Good Sam and other companies. We would appreciate hearing about other people's experiences, especially Phaeton owners. I know Tiffin is a good company but we don't live anywhere near Alabama.
Thanks.

Glad to have you here in the forum with us.

There are quite a few threads on this subject. I chose not to have an extended warranty as I feel the cost of insurance vrs, repairs it not in my favor. I just put the money aside. and use it if necessary. Luckily I haven't had any major repairs.

Happy Trails!!!

We had an extended warranty through Good Sam on our Thor Tuscany and I will never do that again. Dealing with Camping World was always a pain and always required three trips to get any repair done correctly. Based on that experience, we opted to not get a warranty on our new Bus, and very happy with that decision. We took that money we would have paid and put it into a separate account to use is we need it. We never came close with the extended warranty. Nor would we ever go back to Camping World for service again.

I do not purchase extended warranties on anything. From a TV to a RV. I do all my own maintenance if possible. After market warranties suck. I did make one exception with my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It took 3 days for the dealer to perform a recall. The dealer went through 4 different computer systems to perform the recall which I cannot do at home. The 24 hours labor at $100 a hour equals what I paid for the lifetime Chrysler/Jeep bumper to bumper warranty. A new engine for a Jeep GC costs approximately 13K according to my dealer. I will save a ton of money by doing this since I can't troubleshoot or repair all the fancy stuff in new autos these days. I am keeping the Jeep forever! Love it.

There are always a lot of fine print with extended warranties. They are big money makers for the companies and the dealers who sell them. As folks say, put the money aside for repairs and you'll probably be ahead of the game as most repairs will not be as much as the warranty costs over the same time period. Exception to the rule is if you have an older coach with considerable use.
