We have climbs like that on the East Coast - you just have to know where they are. Try taking I-77 North out of Charlotte, NC. When you hit the VA line, you will also hit the Fancy Gap section - about 6-8 miles of 6% grade. Very similar to out West.

Not sure about your engine, but I tend to remember keeping that model at about 2500 RPM when climbing. Just adjust your gears (down shift) until you are running about 2500. Make sure your exhaust brake is on and keep the same gear going down the other side. If you are only going 40 mph going over the top, so what.

The climb was a piece of cake. The engine did fine, and we only shifted down to 3rd one time, holding 43 mph. I was very pleased.

On the road in a Tiffin Allegro Red 34, with Blue Ox towing system. Reve, the cat, is Second Officer, who's duties are to lay quiet and do nothing. Donna, my bride, is the First Officer and Navigator . . . Dave drives.
