We took our first serious look at a Allegro Bus. Took it for a drive and was impressed with how it handled, accelorated and stopped. What can you tell me about this brand and model that the salesman can't/won't.

Thanks in advance!

Would probably me more helpful if you posted a bit about the Bus you drove. In general I would tell you that I was impressed with mine when I first drove it. Been driving it now for two years now.

How about the chassis information, engine, suspension, etc.

In general Allegro builds a better than average motorhome and generally keeps customers satisfied.

It was a 2006 40' QDP, Freightliner Chassis, Cummins 400HP. It seemed to have a much better turning radius than the Roadmaster Chassis I've driven and it was much quicker up to freeway speed than the 400 CATs I've driven too. The salesmen were really bragging on Tiffins customer service and how they stand behind their products. Is all this true or just sales talk? It has HWH hydraulic jacks not the HWH air leveling I have been loooking for. If I settled for jacks will I be dissapointed?

True, however I would think you have no warranty on that year rig. So, if something serous needed attention for best support would probably mean a trip To the service center in Red Bay, Alabama.

Cannot compare performance between air and hydraulic but I like my hydraulic system. It will operate maybe two of the slides on that Bus.

We purchased a 2011 Tiffin Allegro Bus QGP this past Feb. So far we love the room the four slides give us when set up and general driving and power the Cummins 450 HP engine pushes the coach down the road. We have only been on one long trip, since we both are still working.

Now, let me tell you the issues we have had to date. The first long trip the shower valve had been broken and the dealer had not completely inspected to find this. Luckily the park we were in had great facilities. I will say Tiffin did send a tech within two hours of my call but with ordering the part we decided to wait until our return home to have the repair made. Several tiles have been replaced due to cracks, the front living room slide on drivers side had to have all the rollers replaced due to popping and rattlling while driving. Tiffin flew a tech to my dealer to make the repair.

One item I am still trying to find out from Tiffin is the instrument cluster, in the speedometer, has generator hours but does not work inside the coach. My dealer tells me its because the Powerglide Chassis cluster is not compatible with the wiring for the generator. This I will see about from Tiffin direct.

Since we are new owners I will say we are excited about our next longer trip. I will say so far I will work through the items with Tiffin to make our coach as reliable as possible.

Can anyone tell me what the computer monitor on the front console is for, is it a navigation system or ???? Is an Auto Generator Start function available?

Thanks

One option in later model Buses was that monitor. If I remember correctly it was your rear camera and GPS system.

We are fulltimers and have an 05 allegro bus and really like it. We've lived in it 3 years now and the only change we would make would be to go to a 06 model. I say this because the 06 has the side opening basement storage bins and that sure makes it easier on the old knees getting into the compartments. It also has a sliding computer tray in front of the passengers seat and a roll out section in the galley to extend the counter. Other than that that I wouldn't trade mine. The 400ISL cummins is a great engine and the IFS gives you good manuverability for the long wheelbase which makes it control better in wind and traffic. Also the Bus has a real "jake brake" Compression brake and it is excellent on the big hills. We have hydro hot heating which we really like too. Good luck on finding the "right one". Steve

We picked up our 2011 bus with powerglide ch. after two long trips we love it. She climbs great, lots of storage, dream to drive, we are still learning about how things work, but that is part of experience, we want to go full time, as soon as house is sold, this is it. ENJOY!

My Essex had both the jacks and the air leveling. The jacks would level the coach on lots that the air leveling didn't have the range to handle. The jacks totally remove any movement when people are walking around. The air leveling was faster and simpler. It was more reliable then the jacks.

The 06 on the Freightlliner has a 55 degree wheel cut (see: http://freightlinerchassis.com/image...C0205-2006.pdf) which makes for a great turning radius. It't the same as I have on my Phaeton. If you want air leveling in the Tiffin line you have to step up to the Zephyr line which has both hydraulic and air leveling or down to the new Breeze that doesn't have jacks, just air leveling.
