First Question for New to Us Allegro Bus

Hi:

We are sitting at Lazy Days right now after taking delivery of a 2015 Allegro Bus.
The transfer switch says on the box that it is also a surge protector and there is a delay when first connecting to power, just like the surge protectors you buy off the shelf.

Is this sufficient to protect the coach, or should I go out and buy an additional protector (and have double the wait for power) ?

Thanks,
Ken

The installed one from Tiffin only protects you from spikes, but not the dips common in older and overbuilt campgrounds.

Get yourself a Progressive surge guard. Cheap insurance that will protect your electronics when not enough power is available.

We just bought a Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X Portable RV Surge Protector (50 A). If we sell our coach it can go with us. I bough a cable lock to secure it as well.

When we bought the 2013 Bus I had similar questions. The exact specifics on the Progressive unit are easy to find, however, when I called Tiffin to get similar specifics on their unit, they were less than forthcoming. I was persistent and almost had to get ugly before I finally got to the right person, but I did finally got what I needed. I immediately ordered the Progressive unit and installed it myself. The Tiffin transfer switch does have some capabilities, but nowhere near the number of protections or levels that are even close to the Progressive capabilities.

Are you feeling lucky???

Your post is the first I have seen that actually provides some info on the Tiffin transfer switch. I am not a big believer in all the things the industry makes us think we need but your info is convincing. Haven't had a problem in 9 years but there is always that one time....Thanks for the info.
