friends 2011 bus needs help

hello bus owners! we have a friend stuck between ok. and tx. they have a 2011 43 bus. frieghtliner 450 isl. last nite their check engine light came on followed by check trans. code says ecu not communicating with trans. then finally shut engine down! any thoughts on this would be great as they are in route to fla. on this holiday week with little help available! thanks!

The first thing I would do is remove power to the engine and transmission ECMs. There are probably fuses very close to the chassis batteries for the ECMs. The easiest way might be to just remove the neg battery cable for a few minutes. If that doesn't work then with the power still off find the ECM on the side on the engine and make sure the wiring harness connector is seated good. The transmission control may be below the shifter bay or in an electrical bay. We're they in wet weather? My guess is that there was some moisture intrusion.

Tiffin should have a 24 hour tech help line. Gave a call.

steve and triker, thanks for the help. our friend managed to get up and going and are headed back north a bit to a frieghtliner center that agreed to look at at it today! ps. steve are you cominhg down to cw. thanks again! jim

Hey Jim,

We'll be 3rd week of Jan getting down there. We're visiting our oldest daughter in Cocoa Beach and then camping with friends at the Tampa Super Show first. We're still in the cold of east Tn with family but leaving in the next few days.
