We were just driving thru Seattle and bang--both our front blinds (the day shade and also the night shade) fell from the top mount on the driver's side and landed on our dash! Luckily, the driver did not panic and cause an accident. We were able to stop for repairs and were just told that to fix this would cost around $1600 as everything would have to be replaced, the motor as well as it comes as a complete package.

Our previous trip, the night shade on the passenger side just let go going down the freeway and landed on my head. We love our Fred but the blinds....has anyone elso had an issue?

Yes, the blinds are expensive, but do they really need to be replaced? Were they damaged beyond repair? If they were made by MCD, contact the manufacturer MCD Innovations. They may be able to rebuild them is there was some damage.

I have heard stories of them falling down, but they just needed to have a couple of additional clips installed to make sure they stayed up. MCD will usually send you additional clips at no cost.

We had ours come down a few miles east of Memphis while we were on our way to the Red Bay factory. The aluminum angle bracket that holds the end to the mount plate broke at the 90 degree bend.

When I got to Tiffin, they said it was a known problem and gave me 2 steel angles, one to replace the broken one, and another to replace the one that hadn't broken yet. I had the new ones in that afternoon, two days before I had the other items on the rig we needed done completed.

Call Tiffin and see what they'll do for you.

Thanks everyone for your input. We will try and contact the MCD and hopefully get the clips. We did contact Tiffin and were told--sorry, out of warranty and that was it.

I'm very surprised by Tiffin's response. That was very uncharacteristic for a company who has a reputation of going above and beyond in customer service.

I have read about several people who have had the blinds fall down, and it was always due either a clip breaking (I think MCD has redesigned the clips) or not enough clips being installed (the last time I read the installation instructions on the MCD web site, they said the clips at the ends of the blind should be doubled up - this may have changed with the redesign of the clips). Tiffin should be well aware of these problems and should have at least offered to send you new clips.

Are you sure the front blinds you are talking about are actually MCD shades? There should be a MCD logo on the front left bottom edge of the shade. Tiffin did not always put MCD shades in the windshield of their coaches. If you contact us, we can help you determine if you do have the MCD product and will help you any way we can.
