Generator Gremlin

I have a 2017 RED 33AA. It has been in outside storage all winter plugged into 50 amp shore power. Yesterday I checked on it and the generator was running. I couldn't tell how long it had been running since I didn't document the hours on it before I winterized it (there are 129 hours on the generator).

I checked the AGS and the system is off. Tiffin service says it could be the AGS control is bad or there is an internal problem with the generator and it needs to go to Onan for repair. The coach is buried in about 2 feet of snow so it's no going anywhere soon!

This morning the generator was running again and it had been running for 13 hours. It must have started about 7pm last night by itself again.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there an easy way I can cut off the 12 volt power to the unit so the started will not engage until the weather breaks?

Thanks!

Bob

There have been some reported instances in the past of generators starting by themselves due to moisture in the control wiring. You should be able to turn off the house batteries to keep it from starting until you can get it checked out. The converter should keep the house batteries charged even with the disconnect switch turned off, but I would also turn off the chassis battery disconnect. With the Spyder system inactive, the chassis batteries won't be getting any charge.

Just unplug the coach and disconnect the coach and chassis batteries. If they are good, then they will last till spring.

The connection at the generator, usually on the PS of the the gen. is usually where the problem is, moisture gets into the large connection. Itís usually taped up with black tape. This is where some have found moisture and corrosion.

I have disconnected that harness per suggestions here and Tiffin. Onan says it's possible it could start if there's an internal problem. The only way to insure that it will not start is to disconnect the power to the starter.

The harness was wrapped in electrical tape and looked fine when I disconnected it. I will monitor it closely for the next few days to see if I need to disconnect the power to the starter.

Thanks everyone!

Bob
