GPS question

Have a new Open Road 35 QBA with built in navigation system. I can not find a model number for the Garmin GPS. Does anyone know if this GPS is RV friendly or should I stick with y Rand McNally unit.

On most GPS you can find the model number as well as version number through one of the menus (system information). We really like our McNally because of the RV features such as Walmart locations, Gas Stations, etc.

Isn't there a sheet in a closet somewhere with all of the model numbers? Ours is in the bedroom closet.

If you go through the screens on the GPS, you should be able to find an "about" screen that tells you the model number. In addition, if the GPS allows you to input height and weight, it can take that info in account when planning routes.
CAUTION: Don't rely on the GPS too much! I've had enough routing errors and misinformation from a variety of GPS units, with lifetime updated maps, etc. that I still use multiple resources, including paper maps to verify a trip before I leave the driveway.

These PROFESSIONAL drivers relied on their GPS a LITTLE too much! Obviously, their GPS's had 'short-comings!'

If you decide to go to a different GPS. I do like my Rand McNally Like the one poster says it can make mistakes and we carry an atlas for the wife to look at if we have doubts. I just downloaded a new software date on my
Rand McNally that I think fixed my biggest complaint. I wanted to be able to go on my computer and plan my trip then download it to the GPS. Rand McNally could not do that. It is not a perfect fix but you can go to Good Sams and plan your trip with their website then download that to your GPS. I like the Good Sams trip planner it has several useful options. You can indicate the number of miles you want to travel in a day and it will show the area you plan on stopping in and what campgrounds are near by. If you give it fuel mileage information it can show you where you will need to fill up and if I recall correctly average fuel prices in that area. I have not been on a trip to use it with the GPS yet but when I went cross country last year it was very handy to use.
