The last front door coach we had used a slow but steady electric motor to close the entry step cover. It worked great and I never had any problems with it.

Our new 2011 Allegro Bus uses a shot of high pressure air to SLAM the cover closed with what seems like enough pressure to do serious injury to anything in it's way. Not only is the sudden bang of the thing closing enough to get one's attention I am concerned that someday either my wife or I will be standing on the steps and will activate the wrong switch sending the cover violently into our, or the other's legs.

Has anyone come up with a dampening device like the Super Steer Motion Control Valves or anything that will slow the cover's closing yet close it tight enough to prevent rattling?

Thanks

There is an adjustment for the air pressure that regulates the closing speed on your step cover. The solenoid switch that controls the step is inside outside storage compartment on the left front corner of the motorhome underneath the drivers seat. Inside that compartment, you will find air lines and electrical wiring runnng to the solenoid switch. The switch will have an adjustment screw for both the closing and opening speed which you can adjust.

If you turn it too far, the step will not close so make small adjustments.

Thank You...I found the correct compartment and the solenoid. I will try adjusting it and see what happens.

FYI on the air solenoid. This solenoid is a source of air system leaks in Tiffin units. I was able to take mine apart and clean/lub it to get the leak stopped. The air leak was so large the all the supply would leak down overnight.

I had to adjust mine too but it would still hit the screen portion of the door so I took a small round felt sticker pad about the size of a quarter and stuck it to the screen door to cushion the step cover, this also helps to silence it. Basically this piece is used to stick under furniture and chairs and found at lowes. My air pressure is turned down as low as it can go and still operate.
