RV Geeks on youtube recommend using 0000 steel wool for cleaning windshields. You could also try lime-away.

Life in the fast lane? No thanks! We will stop and smell the flowers at every chance.
I've used Mother's Chrome Polish numerous times. The stuff is amazing in that it cleans real well but doesn't leave scratches (sounds like a Bon Ami commercial ). I've used it on the chrome plastic mirrors as well as the tinted glass. When hard water hits the hot tinted glass it cakes up pretty quick. The Mothers wipes on nice and easy and gets rid of the water spots without scratching the windows and leave a nice smooth finish.
I don't think you have hard water stains but residue from the roof itself or rust from the AC pan. The water coming from the AC should be distilled as it is condensate...
