A carbon pile tester is a good start battery tester but it is not designed for testing deep cycle batteries.

The meter is gauged for cold cranking amps, not what your looking for, in a real deep cycle battery. How would you know what line on the gauge to read ?

Her is a website explaining deep cycle battery testing.
