How am I supposed to open this?

I have been unscrewing this fuse and disconnecting the battery cables but my wife is convinced I'm doing it wrong. Either way why would they install it so the spin cap doesn't function?

Are you talking about the battery caps? What are you trying to accomplish?

Ah! Those two tabs on each side of the cap assembly, push them in opposite directions till they are 90* to the cap assembly, then the whole unit will lift straight up .

Looks like the tabs hit the fuse base.

If you can't reconfigure the base for more clearance, next time you have the spin cap off, cut the tab that's hitting the fuse base shorter.

I am glad that you posted this. Our new rig has the same problem and I was going to point that out at the dealer at the next visit. The only solution that I could think of was to carefully take a small hack saw to the blocked tab and cut off just enough to clear the obstruction. Maybe?

One of mine does the same thing, I loosen the nut a little to move cable and then open battery, then reverse the process. It is in such a spot I cant leave the post connections far enough away from the cap.

Take a look at these it might make it easier to maintain your batteries. I have used these on our RV and it sure make filling the battery easier.

You can probable stop at a battery shop and get a hand full of individual caps for free.

I had the same issue. If you loosen both bolts and move the block counterclockwise it will clear. At least mine did.

The cable shown is a positive cable. If you are going to loosen the cable I would recommend you disconnect the negative cable first to prevent any danger of an arc or spark. The fumes from the battery acid are extremely flammable. If open to air and a spark occurred the battery could explode in your face.

Same for me on my 2019. Had to move several other cables as well. Not really a big deal and DEFINITELY not worth a trip to the dealer.
