I made it, but my feet did not.

Well I made it to retirement after 20 years US Air Force and 20 years Boeing. We bought our 2nd Tiffin in 2012 we were so looking forward to hitting the road on some longer trips, but now my feet have succumbed to diabetic neuropathy. It is not safe for me to drive.

[moderator edit] I have a 2012 Tiffin Allegro Open Road 36 LA [moderator edit]. Any suggestions on my best options to get out of this and minimize my bath?

Before you sell out and give up try Alpha Lipoic Acid. Dr suggested it for my neuropathy several months ago. DW has diabetes and she is not on it. Will not cure your neuropathy, but definitrly will help.

if you like RV-ing, check into hand controls to see if they would be a viable option.

Waliguy

A great misfortune you have. Sorry to hear of your being cheated of a life dream. I presume you have had multiple opinions from both neurologists and diabetologists? There are several good treatments for the pain, but the anesthesia is much more of a challenge.

Hey Waliguy...sorry to hear that. Have you looked at controlling your diabetes with a Keto Diet (or LCHF Diet). Quite often, the effects of diabetes can be controlled and sometimes reversed with a strict diet. Good Luck! I have been controlling my T2D for 10 years with this diet.

Any chance you can get your DW behind the wheel?
There are a few good RV training schools around.
Happy Glamping.

Diabetic neuropathy is usually not disabling. Uncomfortable even painful for some but properly treated you should be able to carry on. One prescription medication comes to mind that is used to treat nerve damage - gabapentin which is in the same family as Lyrica. The difference is its generic. Ask your doctor and, it needed, get referred to a nerve specialist for a more complete diagnosis and treatment plan.

It takes years of poorly controlled diabetes to get to neuropathy so I'm not going to suggest dietary approaches or diabetes medications to you. I've had diabetes for 29 years but I've great doctors and an attitude focused on control for that whole time and no long term health effects attributed to diabetes.

If you do decide to sell your coach, list it on this website, the Tiffin RV Network website, and, if you decide to use a commercial service, RVTrader seems to have the best owner reviews. There are also consignment dealers, like PPL Motorhomes in Texas, that do a good job as well.

If you feel your health won't improve enough to drive in the next few years, I agree that you need to get rid of it. More to using a MH than just driving - set up, gassing it up, etc. Sell it for what you can and just take the loss before it gets older. Dave
