Sour Grapes

We took delivery of a new Allegro Bus in August 2018. Our local Tiffin dealer wouldn't schedule warranty work until April 2019, so we drove to Red Bay. Lucky to get spot in campground, only electric, and waited a week before it went into service bay to start on our 17 page single spaced list. 2 weeks later they "completed" warranty items. Awnings and slide toppers were not warrantied and they wanted $3-4000 to replace 5 month awnings. Big source of aggravation was only 2 of the ceiling lights still worked when we got to Red Bay, bad batch of lights.

Left Red Bay and got to Memphis and "corrected" problems were reoccurring. Service staff were very pleasant to deal with. Problems continued and we started looking for another RV, in March we took delivery of a '19 Newmar.

2 new RV's in 6 months really hurt the pocket book.

Wow! You Tiffin owners really get your panties in a wad.
Own American Coach, REV done awesome for me. Emailed me complete electrical, plumbing diagrams for coach in a day of asking and Techs explained how to correctly route new camera cables.
But you know what, at end of day we all love our coaches, so why be sarcastic and negative
We even have bad days at Walmart,
There’s good days and bad days, Love and Peace goes long way.

Yes, it is true no appointments in Red bay and yes you may wait up to a week to get into a bay. Once there the service is outstanding! The techs are throughly knowledgeable in all issues Tiffin. My first choice is always to go to Red Bay over any where else. Fabulous when under warranty going from dedicated bay to bay and fabulous in the Express Bay too. One of the advantages of a week staying in the the Tiffin “campground” is meeting others from across the country and making long lasting friends.

Consider getting a Newmar.

A Newago?

I'd rather take my chances on Yellowhammers than northeastern Hoosiers. Now if they built the Newmars around Hammond instead of Elkhart, that would be different.

Tiffin's no appointment policy may not be the best for everybody and if you cannot live with it, then a Tiffin may not be for you. It works well for me and thousands others, but if it is a deal breaker for you I would look elsewhere. You will be happier for passing on a Tiffin. Different strokes for different folks.

Careful, Tiffin could be next.

i heard tiffin was great with factory service... so i ordered a 18 model year and traded in the coachman... i loved it... i could call tiffin and talk to service folks!! what a difference... most of the time they would explain how to correct problem i had caused!! so, then near the end of my warranty, i went to red bay and followed instructions... *important factor!

enjoy your HR... congrats... if more folks buy HR s we'll get quicker service in red bay.... and both company's will benefit from the competition! and so will the owners...

Really really humble ain't we. Butt be as it may sooner than later your tiffin will be out of warranty unless you enjoy flushing depreciation dollars annually then more power to you and please do flood the used markets with barely used DPs as wise investors need used coaches. I read about some guys on the global fortune the richest on earth type lists and a few of them only buy used vehicles (fancy ones but used!).

Congratulations to you on your bride and your tiffin enjoy bigly.

We have a 2018 Winnebago Forza 38F. Needed some warranty work done, nothing major. Made an appointment in August because we would be going through Iowa. Arrived in Forest City on Tuesday they took us in. We camped in their campground (free) and we were out on Thursday. Tiffins are fine machines, we know many people that love them, but Winnebago was the easiest to work with, ever. We later heard about the Tiffin no reservation policy, just hang around because your time isn't as important as our time, policy. We were thankful we didn't buy the Tiffin.

I used to own a 2011 Tiffin Phaeton. I have never been to Red Bay and after dealing with the telephone customer service reps., I would not be moved to waste my time traveling there. My Phaeton had some serious issues all related to poor workmanship and cutting corners to fill the bottom line. The 3 calls to the service center I made were disappointing. I sold it a year after buying it. The Freight liner chassis is great but what Tiffin builds on it is the same build quality (workmanship) that Forest River is.

{sigh}

I've written several paragraphs that I deleted because they *might* affront the rules here... so I'll say this: Tiffin is up front about how their factory service is handled - they disclose it on their web site and they certainly will tell an owner over the phone or email how this part of their business is done. An owner needing warranty or out of warranty service from the Mothership will get full disclosure. The consternation seems misplaced.

For Tiffin owners who do not like this method I can understand and relate: waiting around is no fun, but for Tiffin, having open bays and idle technicians is neither minimizing expenses nor making a profit and ultimately the coach has to be in the bay in order to receive the service the owner claimed was needed or wanted. No-shows drive up the price of both warranty and retail service and delays service to other owners.

Ultimately our wallets do our voting - if Tiffin's service policy is an anathema to you then buying a different brand is perhaps a better choice for your needs, schedule and peace of mind.

What this says to me, though, is that there are still not enough qualified technicians to properly service the increasingly complex and more quickly built coaches of today. I guess we need some 2 year degrees in Motor Coach technology and an employment path for the graduates.

Well, for starters, it was NOT my intent to start a brand war. It's just that I've been doing this for almost 50 years, pop-ups, TT's, fivers, 'C's', class A gasser's and now DP's. In all that time I've never come across a service policy like Tiffins. As I stated, I don't own a Tiffin, but over the years I've heard mostly good things about them. That being said, Tiffin's service policy would keep ME from buying one. As other posters have said, why is MY time less valuable than Tiffin's. My OP was because I've always had good service from factory centers especially lately with my HR at REV. I felt bad because I was the one that suggested my friend go to Red Bay based on my experiences. I was unaware that Tiffin ran their service dept. this way. Sorry, but it's just not my cup of tea. Reading some of the other posts here, there are others that feel the same way and others that don't mind waiting. As for my friend, after waiting almost a week, when he got in they fixed his four issues, one of them being an apparent short? in the lights above his sofa. He got home to FL two days later and the lights above his sofa quit working again. What this all says to me is: IF you get in when you want either by appointment or in Tiffin's case what YOU consider a short wait AND your issues are fixed, you have the best coach from the best mfg, and fixed by the world's best techs. IF not and things don't go smoothly, maybe they're not so great. It's a crapshoot. From reading here however, it seems Tiffin's service department is continuely pretty busy, much like everybody else. So for those Tiffen owners that were offended by my OP, my most humble apologies. I wasn't denigrating Tiffen, but I was astonished when I found out about their policies. Again, just not MY cup of tea. For those Tiffin owners with a little, how shall we say, thicker skin, I appreciate your comments and thoughts as I hope everyone else does. I hope you don't ever have to go to Red Bay but if you do, I hope it's smooth sailing. Nuff said.

Our Tiffin coach is no longer under warranty so I really don't have a dog in this fight. However, I would be very reluctant to purchase a newer Tiffin with any expectation of receiving warranty service. I work for a living and can't go to Red Bay to hang out for days until my turn comes for service. Of course, expecting any competent warranty service from a dealer is also a non-starter. When we bought our Phaeton coach, being in-warranty or out-of-warranty was not a consideration in the decision process to buy a Tiffin.
