Jacks first or slides first

Dealer told me one thing and heard Tiffin say another in a video. I have always been a jacks down before deploying the slides. What’s the right way?

You are correct. Level first then deploy the slides. Some brands are just the opposite, but not Tiffins.

I was told by the dealer and at Red Bay to LEVEL FIRST, so to keep the whole unit as squared up as possible, just like when they install the slide outs. I had a door the was not closing properly, at Red Bay they adjusted the leveling system and the door worked great again. So I assume you could do the same to your slide outs. You are going to get what works from many people. Do what you feel best doing. Welcome to the Tiffin family and many safe miles

Open Road manual, page 70 under giant CAUTION with exclamation point inside triangle,

“The motorhome must be parked and the leveling jacks must be used to level the motor home {yes, they spell it differently in the same sentence} PRIOR {their emphasis} to activating the slide-out features and the ignition switch must be in the “on” position.”

Im thinking your dealer told you otherwise. I knew 10 times more about my rig than the dealer knew. I would always check twice on anything they said.

Happy camping!!

Thanks, deploying the jacks first makes more sense to me.

Could the diesels possibly be different than the gas, slides first? This coming week will be our maiden voyage and lots of reading and learning. I will know the answer before we go.

I really had (have) a lot of faith in the master mechanic and find it hard he was leading me astray. Just didn't seem logical to have slides first but what do I know...not much at this point haha. Thanks for your reply.

Diesels are the same, jacks down first then slides out! Best of luck with the new rig and safe travels!

I do the jacks first and then the slide. Not sure it makes any difference, but I just think that the slide might bind or something if not level or close to it.

Page 75 of the 2019 Phaeton manual says the same thing.

Told at Red Bay service center - put the jacks down then slides - then bump auto level again after slides are out -

When in doubt, read the manual. Unlike other mfr owner's manuals, Tiffin's is very good.
