KONI shocks

Any recommendations on installing KONI shocks? We have a 2018 Allegro Red 33aa and get hammered while driving in the slow lanes of some major freeways. Thank you!

What tire pressures are you running? Best suggestion would be to weigh the RV then go with the tire manufacturer's recommendation for that load.

top of the line bilstein are another option. bilstein solved a similar problem I had on a class c. I replaced the oem bilsteins on my 2012 Open Road gaser, with top of the line bilstein after about 20,000 miles. Dave

I thought it was just me. I'm at a suspension shop in Kansas City getting my system looked at. It seems these roads that are falling apart especially up north rattle my eye teeth. Every seam in the road seems to make me white Knuckle. I believe we are going to adjust my air bags in the back and hopefully that should cure the issue. I'm running a reyco granning system with Firestone airbags. The mechanic seems to think that when I had them replaced last year they were not adjusted correctly. We will see tomorrow.

How are premium shocks gonna help "hammering" ?

Are you experiencing Nose Dives/Rear End Squats, Dipping, Excessive Bouncing ?

At 50k miles I installed adjustable Koni's. Great handling and bounce/rebound improvement. But didn't help expansion joint hammering or rough road patches. We still get '"jarred".

I replaced the Bilsteins on my coach (18,500 miles) with Konis and the ride is much better.

Our first motorhome was a Monaco Dynasty and I put Koni shocks (qty 8) on it after a couple of years of getting it. The ride was much better, concrete bumps and transitions were quieter.

About 6 months after getting our Allegro Bus, I replaced the 4 shocks on it with Koni's. Much smoother and quieter. I am not a fan of Bilstein shocks.

I replaced the OEM Sachs shocks at 12000 miles with Koni FSD's on our 16 Phaeton 36GH. My wife immediately said the ride was smoother and less harsh and that is without me telling her why I was replacing the shocks or what the shocks function is.

The Konis did eliminate much of the body rocking, porpoising, and smooths out some of the harshness of rough roads.

Let me guess, I-5? Some stretches are just horrible. No combination of shocks, tires or tire pressure (really?) will eliminate the pounding from those pothole ridden areas. We have Koni's so don't expect a silky smooth ride if you make the switch.

Some swear by Road King, others by Koni or Bilstein. You've got a new coach. Swapping new shocks with new shocks for marginal gains may be a waste of time and money. For now I'd recommend moving out of those lanes whenever possible or using alternate routes until you actually need new shocks.

So many factors to determine best shock on your motorhome. As skypilot states what is ‘Getting hammered’ mean in your mind?

Shocks help with jounce - rate of dampening. I agree new shocks on a new coach may be marginal improvement unless OEM put on a cheap shock.

I just did the research on new shocks for my 12,000 lb Neway IFS and 17,000/8,000 lb Ridewell rear drive/tag suspension. I will upgrade the front with a new Koni Evo99 and stick with the OEM Koni FSD gold in the back. The old ones are 10 years old and tired. I expect some improvement in jounce.

Tire pressure is very important to match your wheel weights. Inflating to max cold, unless recommended by OEM, always make for a sharper/rough ride.

My thoughts - although some were already stated above.

Brian

Hi, I know this is probably been posted a million times but do you have the chart for tire pressure to wait load handy?

Proper inflation for weight differs by Mfg and by tire.
Best bet is to go to the website of your tire Mfg and see if they post one.
