MPG on 2007 Tiffin Phaeton 350 Cat

Are there any after market items that will really help increase MPG on this coach? I know driving conditions, how one drives, tire pressure and numerous other things do effect MPG, but can one buy anything out there that really helps with MPG.

Thanks Stan in Tn.

Other than better driving habits (slow down!) and reducing the amount of weight you tow, there are no majic fixes for mpg.

Actually there is a fix - sell your coach and get one of the new DEF engined models. Mileage should increase 1-3 mpg and you will have all of the latest toys. I'd hate to try and figure out how many miles you are going to have to drive to get a payback.

Thanks Stan in Tn.

Short answer is no. The 2 biggest factors in economy is weight and speed. Slowing down and actively planning for what you see on the road ahead are the biggest deals that you have any control over. If you rely on CC in rolling terrain it will cost you fuel. Peg your target speed at the lowest that will get you in 6th gear and not constantly downshifting. Let your speed creep up on short down grades leading to an up grade. Let your speed fall somewhat on the short up grades. Longer grades either up or down should be managed for safety rather than economy. Even such minor grade changes as interstate overpasses are a drags on economy.

If you don't have one, invest in a quality Diesel engine monitor like the Silverleaf. Set it up for your engine and learn to activity monitor your engine's performance. You will become a better driver and get the most economy and performance at the same time.

2007 phaeton MPG

Thank you for your reply, will certainly take all into consideration.

Don't know much about the silver leaf info center, but have looked at the scan gauge D system. Didn't know if they really helped.

Thanks Stan in Tn
