New Tiffin - Dealer or Factory Delivery
Hi everyone,
We ordered a 2011 Phaeton QBH (40') at the PA RV Show with delivery set for ~ Mar 11. Do you recommend pickup at the dealer (Niagara Falls, NY) or at the factory. This is our first motor home so will need some instruction. We're "recovering" boat owners (owned diesel trawlers previously) so we have some experience with systems similar to motor homes.
Our tow vehicle will be a Jeep Wrangler. Any suggestions on a tow system. Several freinds have recommended the Blue Ox.
We look forward to joining this forum and getting to know folks.

Hi guys. Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your Tiffin selection. We just picked up our 2010 Phaeton 40 QTH this past April and love it.
Pickup location is easy. There is no choice to pick up at the factory. You'll have to pick up at the dealer.
We currently use Blue Ox to pull our toad, but I really can't say whether it is superior to some of the other brands out there such as Demco or Roadmaster. I think you'll be fine if you go with one of the three.
Best wishes with your new rig.

Hi Tri-man, welcome to iRV2.
Steve is right - unless things have changed in the last year or 2, Tiffin will not let you pick up your coach at the factory. They will, however, allow you into the factory to follow your motorhome all the way through the manufacturing process if you want to. You can take all the photos you want, too. All they ask is for you to stay out of the way. You can call the factory and get the date your unit will start down the line.
For a towing system, I like Blue Ox for the tow bar and base plate, but I like Roadmaster for wiring kits and diodes. The Blue Ox web site has instructions available online if your interested in doing the baseplate install yourself and you want to see what is involved. Roadmaster has wiring info on their web site for various wiring options.

Steve, Karen & paz,
Thanks for your responses. We understood p/u at the factory was an option, but maybe we miss understood.

I love the blue ox and I am using the air force one. It is so simple to hook up, plug in one airline and you are ready to go. Also, easy to transfer to another vehicle. Blue Ox is also simple to hook up and low profile on the truck when not hooked up. Most people don't even know it is there.

I use a 2010 wrangler as a toad and I chose the Roadmaster baseplate because I thought it was less obtrusive under the bumper. Roadmaster and Blue Ox both make quality systems and on the toads I have had, I always look at both systems and choose the one that looks the best when not towing the vehicle.

I have the Roadmaster All Terrain with a Tow Defender. Also a Uni-Brake system the uses the power brakes on my Toad. The hook-up takes all of about 2 minutes. I think it's a great system.

Thanks for your notes. I'll check out the Roadmaster tow systems as well.

Congratulations. The others are correct -- factory pick up is not an option.
