Not a Good Start to Our Trip in the Phaeton

As we were driving out of the neighborhood yesterday to depart on our Thanksgiving trip, I stopped (and put the parking brake on) to pull down the shade over the driver's side window. I barely touched it and the entire assembly came falling down! Turns out it's only held up with three one-inch screws. After they go through metal housing and the vinyl headliner, there's not much screw going into the wood. Actually, I wasn't all that surprised considering I'd already replaced 3 screws in the windshield day/night shade assembly. Tiffin probably saved a nickel using smaller screws.

Heading out in an hour or so myself in ours. I'll watch those screws! Hope the rest of your trip is trouble-free.

The problem isn’t so much the screws but whoever installed your shade spun the screws. Essentially stripping the wood.

I was driving down the rough roads in Illinois and the window shade fell on my wife. Luckily(?) the rear screw stayed put but she had to hold up the shade until I got to the next exit and I could reattach the shade to the roof. I thought I got it attached to a good point but then it fell again about 6 months later.
Found one of attachment brackets was broken. I replaced the bracket and moved the shade to a good attachment point for a permanent repair. I used a good bracket from the 1/2 bath shade until I could get a new one from Tiffin.
