onan generator

Purchased 2003 motorcoach with a 7500 watt onan generator. It runs great, however after shutting off it looses prime. The previous owner says that he would disconnect the side off the fuel line that gos into the main tank ( not the filter side) He would blow air into the tank build up pressure. Put his thumb over the tube, the pressure in the tank would fill the line and he would reconnect the line. The generator would now start.
Any one else have this weird problem? Any suggestions as to a fix? Could the main gas tank be a problem?

You should not be able to blow air back into the fuel tank and pressurize it if the fuel tank is vented properly. I am guessing that the tank is not vented and after you shut the generator off the vacuum created in the fuel tank is pulling the gas back through the line into the tank. I would check to make sure the vent line from the tank is not plugged or make sure the gas cap is allowing air into the tank.
