For you semi squeamish people, a quick spray of WD-40 will do the same thing.

Actually, I think it will do the opposite... as it will deteriorate the rubber over time. So if the rubber is already drying out and becoming brittle, it will lube it up in the short term, but will make it worse long term. Plus, the peanut butter can fill in cracks in the rubber for a bit whereas WD-40 won't.

Just my thoughts. I know it will ruin a paintball gun by damaging the seals.

There is a product called plumbers grease that probably would work better. Also, you can use a Q-tip to apply it.

Vaseline would be a bad idea as that is petroleum based and can rot some rubber formulations.

I heard Jiffy works faster! In a jiffy.

Skippy might not spread evenly. Prone to skipping.

If your seal is leaking, it is because it has shrunk. WD40, plumbers grease, peanut butter, vaseline, etc. all cause the seal to swell slightly and stop the leaking. Spray or smear away fellow RVers.

Personally I would not use WD40, or vaseline or any other product with petroleum distillates. Anyone who has ever seen an oil contaminated brake system will understand why. Not sure the problem is shrinkage as much as its dried out and gotten stiff. Plumbers grease is designed to work with rubber. I can't believe peanut oil could be harmful to rubber, so its probably ok to use. I would think a thick grease like Silglyde might work well too. just mho.
