please help!!!!

We are in a rv park in Williamsburg, Va.

Our next door neighbor is a newbie with a Tiffin home. He has two kids and needs help.

Wife was running central vac and all power died. Nothing works on shore or generator power. Not even the inverter. There must be some kind of main.

Can anyone help?

Look near the bedroom or bathroom for a breaker panel box. Trip all of the breakers.

Next, look for a blown fuse. I don't know where to tell you to look. Ours has fuses in at least four locations. Most of our "house" fuses are in a basement compartment directly under the drivers seat. Others are in the electrical bay, next to the breaker panel box and in the basement bay where the inverter/converter is located.

Also, check the shore power breaker. Probably should do this first. If they were plugged into 30 amp service the vacuum cleaner could have pulled them over the amperage if other things were also running.

Thanks for your attention. Shore power is ok. Every breaker that can be found has been reset. Still no power anywhere, except light under the hood. Temp here will be around 40 tonight. No Fridge, even gas. No hot water. Most important, no heat.

My Gulf Stream has several large buss fuses in the electrical storage unit under the driver. They have red buttons on them and the button is used only to trip the fuse(it acts as a breaker). There is a small black lever that will come down, not easy to see so use a flash light. If any have this lever down, push it up to reset it. Good luck

Problem might be with the transfer switch. Make sure you are disconnected from all power, open the cover and check all the 110 volt connections for tightness. I have seen these connections loosen many times. They might be loose. If you have a volt meter you can carefully check for voltage at the transfer switch after you plug in shore power. You should have volts going into the switch on the shore power side and volts going out on the load side which goes to the main fuse box. If there are no volts on the load side, the switch is the problem. You might try giving it a "rap".
Good luck.

Vac Power Loss

I am very new to RVing and my Tiffin. Without knowing your model, that vac is probably on a GFI plug (115vac) which is designed to kill ac power if shorted, by water for instance. Try resetting the plug and "rebooting the ac shore power".

Hope that works.

Hi Mullinswood,

If you haven't corrected your neighbors problem yet, it might help to give us the year, make and model of the Tiffin in trouble. I do know that some of the Tiffins have been plagued with transfer switch failures that showed the same symptons you described. This is the number to Tiffin in Red Bay, Al.
Phone: (256) 356-8661
Fax: (256) 356-8219
For Parts & Service: (256) 356-0261

A call to them should start you on your way to repair.
You didn't say which campground you where at in Williamsburg. If your in American Heritage there is a large Tiffin rally meeting there starting the 13th but a number of owners were expecting to show up early. You might cruise the park and get some help there too. Now if your in Outdoor Resorts, there just across the highway so you might still scoot over to American Heritage. Good Luck and keep us up on your progress.

Hope you have found the problem by now, but another thought would be to check where you are plugged into the CG. Maybe the main breaker there tripped. John H...

Any power on Generator? If not disconnect all power, open the transfer switch box and look for burned wires, the tiffin manufactured switch boxes are famous for burning one wire off.

Would you believe that the main power switch on a new Allegro bus is in the entry stair well. It seems that it is possible to accidently trip the switch while cleaning up.
All is now well. Thanks everyone for your response

Bwahahaha love it! That is something I would do.

But you got some great advise out of it!

My 12 volt switch is in the stairwell and I can't tell you how many times I"ve disconnected the batteries by accident.

But the 120 volt main.. That is elsewhere and under cover.
