Problem with house batteries

I've got a 2003 Allegro Bus 38'. I just replaced all the batteries and having problems. They are draining and will not seem to charge. As I removed each cable I made a diagram and numbered the cables, however, I must have made a mistake somewhere. My batteries are in adjacent compartments with 2 of the 6v batteries in the smaller compartment. I have a hot cable and ground cable going into the second compartment where the 2 6v batteries are located. On these two I hooked positive on one battery to ground on the other using the short jumper. I then hooked the long positive cable coming from the other compartment to positive on one battery and long negative cable to negative post on other battery. Anyone know if they are connected properly??? Any help would be appreciated. Jack

It sounds like you have those two 6 volts wired correctly IN that small compartment. But you need to tell us about the other batteries as well. If you can post a picture it would really help.

You need to make it clearer.

You " hooked positive cable on one battery to GROUND on the other using a short jumper cable". Do you mean negetive?

Perhaps this picture will help .
Do you have a voltmeter?
If hooked up correctly testing across the main ground to the main power cable should show 12.6v with charged batteries.
Many converter/chargers have reverse polarity protection fuses or circuit breakers so that would be the next thing to check.

Thanks everybody. Picture from Skip showed me the batteries wired correctly. Did check voltage with multi meter and all good. Finally found thrown circuit breaker and that took care of the problem. Headed to the lake. Irv2 forums are great. Jack
