Question about the Truma water heater

I called Tiffin to see if they can switch out the Truma water heater on 2020 RED for the traditional propane/electric one from '19. The guy told me there's an electric heating element in it??

I was under the impression that these tankless water heaters cannot use an "electric only" mode to heat water. We are usually at full hookup sites that include electricity.. hardly use propane.

Anyone with experience ?

You got bad information. The Truma uses a propane burner. it gets 12v power for operational control but does not receive 110V AC power.

On demand electric heaters, such as you might find in a home require A LOT of electric power - usually a dedicated 30 or 50 amp circuit - usually 240v. Impractical for a Motorhome.

I understand your logic for wanting a tank heater but but you do realize you'll be giving up the endless hot water provided by the Truma right? I would never want to go back to a five or even ten gallon tank heater. Propane is cheap, easy and will give you hot water if you ever do find yourself without AC power. Also, consider resale. Future owners may not use the coach the same way you do.

thank you.. I saw on Truma's web site that they have some electric water heaters so thinking maybe Tiffin was using some new hybrid.

the other option is to get the all-electric AquaHot version which can use diesel to heat water when 120V isn't available?
