Rear A/C fan issue

So tonight I turned down the temp on zone 3, and the plastic fan that recirculates air blew up again. Again, as in third time in just over a year. Any idea why this might be happening? We use this 3rd zone more often than the rest, at least at night, but either the quality of the fans is going downhill, or I have a motor issue (out of balance?).

Anyone with any experience on this?

Well, the issue has been resolved. Called AirXcel techs, and they told me the A/C had (most likely) been installed incorrectly. It is supposed to be mounted to the roof with a 1” gasket around the air box, and evenly bolted down. However, if someone tightens down the screws on the front more than the back, it causes the pan of the A/C to be unlevel with the roof of the RV. This causes the blower squirrel cage to vibrate, which causes noise and premature failure of the plastic cage.

After inspection, it turns out they were correct. Unfortunately, this last blower failure had broken the motor mount; one corner had separated from the other 3. So I called AirXcel back, explained the situation, and the tech was kind enough to tell me they did not sell motor mounts separately, that they only came installed on the motors. However, he would take a look in the “spare parts bin” the next day, and report back to me as to whether or not he could score a spare mount for me.

As fate would have it, he looked, and they had one, but he forgot to call me. So when I called him back a couple of days later, he was very apologetic, and told me he had found a new mount for me. Said he would ship it to me free of charge, but he had to get management approval. I told him I would also buy the gasket from them (higher priced than other places, but why not, since they were helping me out?). So he promised to work on it and call me later that day. Well, about 3 hours later, he returned my call, and to my surprise, had been told to just ship me a brand new motor to replace mine! (Bear in mind, my Mach 8 is 10 years old). I thanked him, offered to pay shipping, but he said nope, it was on them. I then reminded him that I wanted to purchase the gasket from them (around $38), and he said, “Oh yeah, I almost forgot!” He then added the gasket to the deal, and refused my offer of payment.

So not only was I able to solve the problem, finding the cause and a good solution, I got about $200 worth of parts for free! Kudos to the company, and awesome customer service.

WOW! That is outstanding customer service. I need to check my bedroom AC as it seems to have a bit more vibration than the other two. I carry a spare blower just in case.

Here's how you can tell... measure the clearance between the roof of the RV and the A/C pan. Should be even all around. In my case, the gap in the front was about 3/8" less than the rear. Maybe 1/2". In fact, I would measure all 4 sides to ensure it's level.
