Tiffin response

Tiffin Parts
9:47 AM (21 hours ago)

to me
I am not sure on that, but you should have gotten the parts you need for your motorhome. It depends on if they have the gussets or not.

Yes I have the Gussets. I received the two part numbers. Was just wondering why some people have received 12 washers instead of 6 washers. Wanted to settle the issue on the irv2 forum concerning the confusion.

I don't think the parts issue is really a big deal - my guess is that they originally did the bag with the bolt, nut and washer, then decided that they wanted / needed a bigger washer. They did not "undo" the original bags of parts, sent them out along with the new larger washer in a separate bag.

The drawing shows only the one washer, so in theory, it should be the bigger one under the bolt head and nothing under the nut.

On the other hand, given the bolt is long enough I'm not sure that there is any reason not to put the smaller washer under the nut. I'm going to leave that up to my dealer........

The big bolts I received have what looks like a washer that is part of the bolt - like the head with a washer. The six large washers are the same size as the built in washer on the bolt. Can't post picture. Sounds like Tiffin changes what they send out with each call. Dave

I agree there is not a problem with the supplies Tiffin is sending to us. What you receive is what you need. The bigger bolts and nuts are the thing needed to replace the smaller original bolts and nuts. We were just trying to clear up the confusion people have concerning the different packages they are sending us. Use all of whatever you receive.

New bolts and washers installed

Got the package from Tiffin, included 6 bolts, 6 washers, 6 nuts. Tiffin dealer did it in about 20 min. The bolts are larger, and the washers grade 9.

Thanks to flywithcoop, I am now up to speed.

The two pictures are the same, both have gussets, and my Allegro does not (that's what confused me) and I need to have them. Coaches with gussets only need new bolts/washers, coaches without need gussets installed along with upgraded bolts/washers.

So.... Gussets and the attending bolts/washers ordered from Tiffin.

Looking at my notice, I must be dense because the pictures do not help me in determining if I have the "gusset". I assume I do because I have 3 bolts on each side of the hitch. The non gusseted uses 10 bolts total? I've included pics of the front and back sides of the assembly.

Rod, look at the posts right above yours. See the vertical metal pieces that come down between the bolt heads? Those are the gussets. I don't see them in your pics.

Ahhh, I see. My hitch is bolted to a welded, non gusseted frame extension. I'll call Tiffin and find out what exactly they send out for my situation.

The bolts look pretty robust to me, unlike some of the others pictured on this thread.

The bolts in your picture look original. The new bolts are larger than the original bolts. 5/8" versus 1/2" . The originals may work fine but why chance it when you get free bolts and labor from Tiffin. And you will never have to worry about it again.

My upgrade kit came the other day. My 21 year old son retrieved it from outside and asked my what it was because it was so heavy. I told him 'gussets for the RV to fix a recall issue'. I opened the box and picked up the bolts and told him that they were larger and stronger than the old ones. He said 'Yeah, but did they have to ship them in those big metal boxes?'

What the heck! I attempted to install the gussets and new bolts today. Isn't gonna happen. These bolts are 15/16" as compared to the 3/4" ones I removed. How are you guys getting the new nut and bolt snug? It appears there is a taper on the nut and even with 1/2" drive breaker bar and large box end wrench, I can't get enough leverage on these to get the even close to tight. What the hell? Looks like I'll have to make an appointment with the dealer to get this done.. and oh by the way, the C channel is clearly drilled out to accept the gusset. Tiffin just didn't put one there. So what, they ran out and the folks just slapped the hitch on with what they had? Really? I can see that without the gusset, there could be excessive torque applied to the end of the frame extension.
