Slide out

I have an Allegro Bay 34xb 2006 on a Workhorse chassis. A few days ago when putting out the living room slide, just at full extension there was a very
loud bang. I retracted the slide and put it out again, same bang. Next day
I retracted the slide and it made occasional popping noises and came in with a couple of hesitations that coincided with the pops. Next time there were more hesitations and noise going out and in. This time just as the slide was fully in there was the same loud bang. I have been camping with the slide in as I worry that I may not be able to retract it. I have checked the gears and tracks and see no problem. I am on the road for another month many suggestions as to what may be wrong and am I correct in not using the slide.

You need to have someone inside extend and retract while you are under the slide looking at it when it happens. Sounds very much like a broken gear on the surface. It could be a broken bolt at the frame, a bad motor or broken gear. You can tell a whole lot more by watching as it moves. Yes, you are wise not to use the slide with that kind of issue as it most likely will eventually completely fail. You don't want to be on the road with it stuck out (although there is a method to bring a slide in manually).
