Slide toppers failing on 2010 Red

I noticed that I am getting small pin holes and a couple of tears on my slide toppers. They are Dometic. I have not been in high winds or desert conditions. The coach was stored indoors for 3 years of its life and I use it about 5 months a year.

Is this a defect or normal wear and tear? Can I repair or will I need to replace all the fabric? It seems early for this to happen. They are vinyl toppers. I am showing some pin holes in my large awning as well.

There are different grades of material used in slide toppers. Some are inexpensive and don't last, while others seem to last forever. It is unusual for Dometic to fail at this early age, especially if you have it stored indoors. I'd call Dometic customer service at 1(800) 544-4881 and ask their advice.

Best of luck and Happy Trails!!

Our original slide toppers lasted about 5 years. They had the same pinholes that you describe, plus they had frayed edges (small tears) and were very brittle. However, we are full-timers, and our slides are always deployed except when we are driving. Therefore, I would say your failure seems to be a bit premature, especially since you say the rig is stored indoors.

They are probably out of warranty, so you will probably end up bearing the expense yourself. The fabric can't be repaired because as I said above, it is probably also very brittle. Unless you can get some satisfaction from Dometic, I recommend Tough Top slide toppers. The vinyl is heavier than the original, and I think the price is also lower than what is available from Dometic or A&E.
