Slides, sometimes slide

I have a 2003 Allegro Bus with two slide.

A couple of times now, when I try to extend or retract them, they will not move. The instructions call for the igintion switch to be in the off position. I swtich it on and off several times and get them to move.

What I am guessing is the ground circuit goes through the igintion switch, but can not find that in the wiring diagrams I have.

Has anyone had any experience with this system?

thanks

Smile Tiffin slide problems

I had a 2005 Phaeton with the same problem. On the passenger side, in the outside compartments toward the rear, you will find some old fashioned solenoids. This particular solenoid is mounted horizontal, rather than vertical as it was designed. It will get to the point that the contacts are not making good connection, partly to the misapplication. You can prove this by tapping on that solenoid when it does not work and then trying it again. When you have proved that this is the problem, call Tiffen and order a new one, and mount it vertical [mine had enough slack in the wires to do this with no problem. After that I always carried a spare, but never needed it again. Yes switch has to be off, the solenoid is in the de-energized position for slides to work. When key is one the solenoid is energized and contacts open to cancel any slide movement.

I'm having the same issue with my 2008 Open Road 32LA. Does anyone have a picture of the solenoid and an exact location?

Dont have my 2005 anymore, but this solenoid is a sllver cylinder about 3 inch long with exposed terminals on each side for power wires and smaller terminals for control wires. Have someone hold in the slide button while someone else taps these with insulated end of good size screwdriver. Tap, not pound. If slide starts working, order a new solenoid from Tiffin.
