Relay

Thanks, You are definitely right in that the slide will not move if the engine is running. I looked ito the passenger side compartment and only found the power converter and the control box for the automatic awning. There is a vertical back wall that looks corrugated but I see no way to remove it. Maybe when Tiffin gets back to me there will be a relay in the front compartment. Or maybe I can buy a Tech manual for this unit. AT least the slide will come in for now.

I looked at the wiring diagram for my 2005 bus and it shows a reversing board. I have not looked at that board to see how it is made but more than likely it will have two relays on it. From the description of your problem I still think that you have a problem in the reverse relay. I am assuming there is relays on the reversing board. The voltage on the switch is really not going to make much of a difference because all the switch does is to control the reversing board. If you want to troubleshoot the reversing board look at the output to the motor and then check the voltage there while having someone else push the switch for in and the switch for out. Everything else is pretty common the motor is the same motor it just runs backwards. same gear train. Same power in (still not sure why it works better with generator. If I recall right the other slide works ok in both directions so same power in. The only difference is going to be how they reverse polarity in the reversing board and I would be very shocked if they did not use relays. Relays are cheap plentiful and the most common way to reverse current through a dc motor.

We have the same floorplan, but Tiffin made major design changes in '04 so they may have relocated the electrical panel. You could try looking in another compartment. Our panel is about 15" long x 8" high covered with a vacuum-formed black plastic cover with one wing nut in the center.

The manual probably won't show where the panel is. Your best bet is to talk to Tiffin. They are usually pretty good at calling back, so if you don't hear from them by Monday, I would try calling them again. Have your VIN handy, and they will be able to look up just about anything you need to knowregarding your coach.

Apprreciation

I really appreciate the inputs I am getting on this topic. Gemini, I still cannot find any relays for reversing. I do know the in/out switch output goes directly to the motor unless I am being fooled somehow. I checked continuity and I think I am right. I am hoping Tiffin will tell me tomorrow about these relays if they exist. As far as a diff with generator there is no difference. An RV mechanic I had check this out stated this but I found it not to be true. I will keep trying.

I looked in the compartment right under the drivers window on the 2005 alegro bus dp. on the back wall on the right hand side is a circuit board labeled slide out #1 I did not find the one for the other slide but I am sure there is a circuit board somewhere. On that circuit board there are two relays. Like I said earlier. The only time that you have the switching done by a switch is low current applications ever thing else pretty much has relays. If you feel capable you might try to find the board for the second slide and swap it with the one for the living room slide. Before you do that make sure you turn off all the battery disconnects. It looked like the board just had a plug in cable to it and was held in place by 4 screws. I still fell like your problem is a bad relay. The relays are on the board in mine and they are hard wired in. I dont know how much the board is but since it is on a motorhome I am sure it is not cheap. Let me know what you find out.

Thanks again,

I will not be able to get back to it for a couple more days but I agree the switch should ot be handling large currents. I have not heard back from Tiffin and they are usually very good. I just have to be patient. I want to use the unit in a couple weeks so I have to get on it. Worst senario is to get away from home and have the slide not come in. I appreciate your input and will let you know what I find.

Well, here I am again and I am surprised. I spoke with Brent at Tiffin and he confirmed that during that time period some were made with the circuit board and some without. Mine is without. The green circuit board on my unit should have been mounted on the large white panel under the front hood. It would be approx 3 inches by 2 inches with 2 relays. "It ain't there." Brent is to send me the circuit board and I will install it in the compartment with the in/out switch. Next problem is getting into the compartment where the in/out switch is mounted. There are no screws or fasteners of any kind. I tried to pry it out but it is breaking the panel. Will it ever end?

Herb,

Everything goes through the slideout relay. Check the 12 Volt connectis to it to make sure they are not loose. I had to replace my relay this past weekend for neither of my slides would work unless i tapped the relay with a hammer. It way good advice from Tiffin -- Check the relay--tapp on it then try to move the slides and IT WORKED. Of course I had to order a relay from tiffin for I couldn't cross reference to any part number on the net.

No Relay

Thanks, Woodyk,

I glad it has worked for you. But as I said in the previous quote mine does not have the relays. Tiffin sent me the relay board which I will install when I have the proper connectors. I will let you know if it helps. I believe it will work and this will make my coach 99%.

I received the new pc board from Tiffin and have installed it. Absolutely no change. Slide will barely come in. Let me say Tiffin has given me support everytime I have needed it. They are great, especially Brent. Only things that have not been changed is the motor and the wiring itself. Guess I will have to turn it over to a very expensive shop. I tried.

I do not know if you have turned it over to a shop yet. I do not know your level of experience so please dont be offended. Are you sure you have the board in line with the motor. In order to install the board the switch would have to control the relays on the board if you still have the switch going to the motor you would not see any change. Did they tell you how to change the wiring ?

Rewired

Thank you. I am never offended when someone is trying to help. Yes, I did a complete rewire and the switch does operate the relays on the board. The slide will out but will start in very slowly I fear there will be a day when it will not make it. I have had to manually push on the slide to get it to start in. I have decided to change out the motor myself but am having a hard time identifying the motor. There is a boot over the motor that hides all numbers so I will have to remove it before I can order it. Never done it so heres hopin'

I have not. I am still waiting for Tiffin to tell me the correct motor to use. I will then order the motor and install it, and pray it fixes the problem. I will post when all is complete. Thanks
