Did I read my manual right. The 2012 Phaeton has a hard wired surge protector already installed?

Howdy and welcome to the forum. Congrats on the new Phaeton! I have no idea about the surge protector, so if you doubt the manual maybe you should call the dealership or the manufacturer for verification. Good luck.

I recently ordered a 2012 Phaeton and during my research discovered that the 2012 Phaeton has the Surge Guard 41260 Automatic Transfer Switch.

So just what does one get with this model? Is there a replaceable MOV should an huge-surge occur or do you have an inoperable transfer switch blocking further pedestal power to the coach? Equally important:Any low voltage situation protection afforded?

To say it's a surge protector does little in the way of information.

I would rather place my trust in a display device that shows the line amperage, voltage, error codes, etc. similar to the EMS-50HW.

After speaking directly with Surge Guard, the 41260 does not protect against low or high voltage. To get that protection, you must upgrade to the Model 40250 “Surge Guard Plus Automatic Transfer Switch” which does protect against both low and high voltage conditions plus all of the other functions of the 41260 Automatic Transfer Switch. I went ahead and replaced the 41260 Surge Guard with the EMS-50HW. Anyone interested in a brand new, never used 41260 Surge Guard?

Yes, don't rely on the transfer switch for proper protection. You'll need a unit like the Progressive EMS50C-HW for that. That will also give you low voltage protection, which is just as important, if not more so.
