The Phaeton Title

For you Phaeton folks that always wondered where the name came from, visited a museum today at the Grand hotel on Mackinac Island where they had a horse drawn carriage exhibit. Probably half of the late 1800 carriages had "Phaeton" as part of the name.

I didn't realize Phaeton also applied to a car. While doing my usual dreaming, I Googled "2014 Phaeton" looking for some video that I had not already seen when all of my hits returned for a Volkswagon... VW Phaeton coming back to US, could be revealed in Detroit - Autoblog

DSL417, yes. The original Phaeton's were British carriages thypcally with exaggerated high wheels. Used almost exclusevely by the " upper crust" of British society.
At least that's what my research turned up. Don't know where the original term "Phaeton" came from.

My spouse told me all I had to do was ask...she knew what a phaeton was...from reading all the romance novels.

Anyway, thought it interesting as I was once in the market for one and wondered where they got the name.

Looks like VW currently owns PHAETON as a trademark and Tiffin owns Phaeton (script type style) trademark.

TESS -- Error

The Phaeton carriage re-used a very old name.

Phaeton is the mythical Greek god that drove Apollo's chariot.

Chariot/carriage. Nearly synonymous.
