The 2008 Allegro Bay is not a DP but a Front End Diesel. ( Fred )
I have a Open Road Fred and I love it. Have had it for four years.

Allegro Bays were made with front engine diesels, and also Workhorse and Ford gas chassis, I believe. We have an 07 FRED and have been very happy with it, both from a quality and performance stand point, but it is not a pusher. Good luck with your search.

Allegro Bay

Hi, I have a 2008 Allegro Bay 37QDB Fred- I have been happy with it and love the interior- I have solved all the minor issues which all motor homes have------- I do recommend that you make sure the engine dog house and compartment is properly insulated to help cut down on heat in the drivers area and noise-- If you have to do it yourself it is not a big deal and will surely be worth the time and effort- The engine cooling fan comes on when climbing steep hills but if this area is insulated well, it is not a problem--- Mine has the 300hp cummins and has plenty of power and decent mileage---------We opted for the Allegro Bay instead of the Phaeton back in 2008 to save about 50k- The Phaeton and all the pushers are great coaches, and some day I may buy one, but I will use the Bay for a while-

Good luck and I hope you find one you like.................DL

Thanks for the Info from you and all the Other's that took time to post. We have had our Gasser for 11 years that we bought new. We are now Retired and trying to decide about a new or late model. we did see a Thor Fred in Harrisburg that was A Serrano. They did not let us drive it and we did not know that other brands had Freds too. We still have to reasurch lots when we get home to Arizona in Mid September. We saw some bad reviews about the Serrano but maybe it was just the Thor Brand. When you put fuel do you have to add the DEF? to it? As we drive 60 to 65 mph can you give us a ball park on fuel use? How well does it due with a Toad and when there is a cross wind? Did you add a t-bar or anything to help with the Wind or sway? Thanks for the Help.

You do not need Def for the 2008. As far as mileage goes. I average 10-10.5 mpg doing normal driving conditions. Some hills and small mountains. That is towing my Fit and running the genny whenever I drive.( both roof airs and frig. going ) Now my Tiffin Allegro Open Road is a bit smaller than the Bay. I am 32'10" and fully loaded for camping weighing in at just under 22,000# and the Fit weight is 2,600#. So 24,600# being pulled by a Cummins 300. I am happy with the 10-10.5 miles per gallon and I average between 60 -65 on the highways. No issues with wind gust, 18 wheelers or anything. I have not driven out west yet. Nothing special done to the steering. Yea I love my Fred. Will probably get a Pheaton or a Red when I retire but that is 5 years away still. :(

Thanks Dan for your Great info. We will have to check the Dealers in Tucson and Mesa and see what is out there when we get back to Arizona. We have been on the road since the 1st of June and we had bad wind across the top part of Texas. We had to stop in Amarillo, Tx because the wind almost blew our motorhome and car off the road. Boy i hate the Wind. We are in Upstate New York at our son's Home. We are getting ready to hit the trail back and plan to be home by mid September. Does your Coach have dual pane windows? we have seen some say they have had issues with them. Again thanks for your info. There are 2 we have seen on line in Tucson that we like will have to see if they are still there next month.

Thanks Danny for your Info. Can you tell me if when you are on the road and your slides are in can you still get to the Bathroom and back of the coach??? We have a cat that needs to get to the back and if you need to stop and there is no rest stop that would be a deal breaker. Thanks for that answer we are asking.

Hey Tractor, yes you can get into the back bedroom, but tight space around end of bed- The bathroom is easy access but the door stays closed unless you prop it open- My coach is comfortable with slides in and traveling- DL

Thanks Danny for that info we plan to drive and look at as many brands as we can before we make that choice and ask lots of questions. We just like that floor plan that you have. another poster posted a good check list of things to look at. We will not be going on another long trip till next May so we will have time to keep looking. We came across the center of the Country and next year we will go up and across the top part of the Country to New York. We will be leaving here on the 21st and hope for good weather as it has been raining here in upstate NY alot. We found a nice campground right on Lake Champlain for next year. Again thanks for info. Frank & Teri

Danny,
Just put a deposit on a 2008 Allegro Bay 37QDB Fred.
Can you explain in a little more depth what it took to insulate the doghouse to help with the heat/noise.

Thanks in advance !

Hey Paul&Vicki- Insulating the doghouse area is not too hard- The access door and the cracks around it allow hot engine air to enter the cabin- If you will remove the door you will see that it along with the area under the dash are not well insulated- Use either thick insulation with a aluminum backing, fiberboard used for AC duct, or spray foam will work- There are 4 screws that will come out of the access door over the engine and you can view the situation- I recommend you do this when you get a chance and get familiar with the area, and then email me back and I will go over in greater detail what to do- I also have a link with pictures from a guy who did the same thing for his coach and he did a great job with pictures and directions- Danny
