Tiffin Wayfarer Discounts?

I know this question has been asked a few times, but no one has ever said how much of a discount they got. So this question is for those that have purchased a Wayfarer and can add to what I will provide here.

I recently asked for price quotes for the configuration we want, a new 2020 model factory order, no trade, etc. Discounts seems to all be in the same ballpark, with 22.5 percent being the best and a low of 21 percent.. This included both local dealers and well as the ones quoted as the big discounters.

My RV purchasing experience is limited to buying a new Dutch Star back in 2000, where local dealers would give a 25 percent discount and a few others went as high as 28 percent. Then in 2009, we purchased a tongue pull toyhauler, and discounts ranged from a local dealer at 22 percent up to 28 percent from a non local dealer. Again, all clean deals, no trades, factory orders.

I assumed the Wayfarer would follow the same ranges, with dealer mark-ups being the same percent.

But now I wonder if the percent of margin is lower on Wayfarers. Did Tiffin do that intentionally, to advertise a lower price over Winnebago, and as a result, dealers have less to play with for discounts, which also levels the playing field between the dealers that tend to give big discounts, to the ire of some of the other dealers.

I'm disappointed, but this may be the reality. I don't want to pay more than I should, perhaps you can't get a better deal on the Wayfarer. A dealer a few months ago, said they can discount Winnebago Views more than they can discount the Wayfarer. That might support the idea that Tiffin intentionally priced it differently with lower margins.

Are there any of you out there that can share your actual experience with pricing on a Wayfarer. Or maybe those that did buy, did't share their info because they thought they didn't get a great deal and didn't want to be criticized for it.

Here's the reality. I've heard that dealers cannot keep Wayfarers on their lots as they turn quick. My dealer parks his Class Cs all next to each other and that means they move fast as buyers compare the quality between competing manufacturers. With the Wayfarer they don't seem so worried about that next loan payment or balloon payment, which often motivates deeper discounting with rigs that can sit longer.

Good luck!

Best,
-Mark

make an offer

tiffin sure is advertising the c on website and magazines.. i think they are emphasiziing that coach to get higher production numbers.
so.
i'd suggest calling your local dealer and one of the big 3 (sherman - carol was my choice, or ingram - rick or davis) and just start by offering 29% discount and no dealer fees and no shipping. quiz them about their walkthrough and PDI process.
a good PDI dealership and good walkthrough process is worth paying 1000 extra for...
unless, you are already a super duper rv mechanic, yourself!

let us know how that works!

I started looking at Wayfarers too and prices for new 19 or 20 are all over the place (on RVT) and no buildsheets. I looked for a price list and no can find. The build and price on Tiffins web site does not show prices either. So how do you even know your discount?

Last time I checked Sherman wasn’t selling the Wayfarers. The class c’s and fifth wheels have a completely different dealer network than the Class A’s

Call Tiffin, preferably Winfield, where the Wayfarer factory is. You can look up their phone number on the Tiffin website.

Ask them for a current retail price list for the Wayfarer. They can email you a PDF, which which will include the base list price of each model as well as a list of all the standard options along with their prices. You then can figure out the retail price to the penny.

There is no shipping charges and most dealers will not add any prep or other changes. Just an FYI on that point.

After I started this tread, I put together my list of options and sent it to multiple dealers. What i found was that discounts were not as high a percent as on the Class A, even the the dealers often quote here as the most aggresstive discounters. I was told that the list price does not have as much a percentage markup as the Class A, that keeps the list price down and more competitive looking, but then the discounts are less (all based on percentages). What I found is the quotes I got back were pretty much within the same range and the best was about 22.5 percent off list. This was for a new order to my specs and it was for a 2020 Wayfarer RW.
