Tile floors on slideout

Hello Tiffin Owners,

Has anyone heard of Tiffin following suit with Newmar with removing carpet on slideouts and putting tile? I know Newmar has the new slideout system that eliminated the need for carpet.

The reason that I ask is Molli and I are sending in build sheet for our Allegro bus this week.. But if they are planning on doing something next year, we may delay until September when 2017 come out.

Hopefully one of you know the Tiffin family and can give me a heads up.

The Tiffin wall structure is not able to handle the load of a slide room with full tile floor. Both Newmar and Entegra use a residential style wall, it is thicker, has more structure and insulation. If memory serves me right () Zephyr tried it for a very short time, had to remove the tile in them. A glued together wall with foam between the studs limits what the builder is able to do, no full wall slides and limited weight on the slide rooms themselves.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like a good reason to look at Newmar, just for the better wall construction

Yes, spoke with Tiffin today and they stated they tried on the Zephyr without success. Thanks so much for comments.

I know this dosen't answer the posed question, but may obtain an answer based on hopeful responses.

I have a 2013 Allegro 36 la.
This vehicle has stick down vinyl tile on the stationary floor area and carpeting on the slider. I don’t have the same problem as with the ceramic installs.

I'm contemplating on removing the carpeting on my slideout but need to figure out how to address the sliders transition edge which rides above the stationary vinyl tile floor when in the stowed position and drops level with the stationary floor area when in the extended position.

The slider edge has a semi flexible plastic carpet support along the length of the slider thus allowing a non tripping transition area when in either position.

I will need to solve the edge issue both as a seal beneath the floor when slider is in the stowed position. The floor sits about 1" above the stationary floor, yet allows the floor to drop down when reaching the fully extended position where the slider floor drops level with stationary floor.

I noticed some new RV's have tile flooring on their slider and have a 1" height difference along the entire slider floor. I need to be able to duplicate this also.
Any suggestions?
Anyone do the vinyl install in place of carpeting?

Regarding the tile slide-out floor, it was in the 2013 Tiffin Zephyr. Here's a You Tube link that shows an example starting at 6 min 56 sec https:
.
I thought Newmar's "More Floor" was a novel idea in until I ran across this.

I have a 2013 Zephyr with the tile slides. Its one of the main reasons I purchased this MH. The amount of tile compared to the weight of the appliances, cabinets, plumbing, refrigerator, etc can't present that much of a weight issue.

Have had no problems at all.
I love it - and won't ever be buying a MH again without flat tile floors. Its the main reason I won't get a new Zephyr because of this issue.

You can add a piece of plywood to the slide and install your vinyl tile. Finish the edge off with a piece of vinyl stair nose trim. The trim comes in many colors and will be found at full service, non box, retail stores
