Towing (toad) question with a Tiffin Allegro Red 37PA
We just ordered a new 2017 Tiffin Allegro Red 37PA, we have 2 vehicles suitable to use as toads. 2014 Ford Edge and a 2012 Ford F150.
We cant decide which to use as tow vehicle ( want to get prepared)
Towing the Ford Edge we cant travel over 65mph, and you have to stop , run the engine every so many hours..with the F150 there are none of these issues
but it is heavier and longer..
Any one tow an F150 with an Allegro Red? Or overall tow recommendations?
words of wisdom?
We are pretty excited about the new coach - hope the time until it delivers passes quickly

I would vote for the Edge as it is lighter. 65 is about where I curse so that isn't a big problem with me. Remember you are driving a much bigger vehicle and stopping can be a problem. Just so you are aware you only have tires (on the coach) rated for 75 at the most.
I run the engine in my toad when I stop for lunch.

We have a 2016 37 PA. I would recommend staying with the smaller lighter vehicle. We tow a Jeep Wrangler. That's about as long and heavy as I would go. Remember you have to fit both into your rv/campsite.
You just ordered a great coach. We love ours. Good luck to you.

What is the tow capacity of the RED? 500/5000? If so, I think the F150 will exceed it.

Which engine do you have in the Edge? Only the V6 version can be towed 4 down, not the Ecoboost 4 cylinder.

Here's another discussion about it...

Depends on whether or not you need the extra seating in the toad or need the truck bed more - good luck !

The f150 will be more difficult to tow, especially in the mountains due to its weight. When towing the lighter the better.

Unless you have a specific reason or need for the F150 I would choose the edge anyday. The edge is lighter, more comfortable, shorter so it's easier to park it in a campground, more seating...so many reasons

With only an ISB engine the coach is somewhat under powered with no toad.
So with the F-150 being close to a ton more than the Edge I wouldn't have any trouble deciding which one to pull. I would recommend adding an EGT gauge to monitor how hard you will be working that engine.

I pulled a GMC crewcab 1500 with our 2014 Red 38QRA without issue other than being slow on a few steep grades. Ours was the 340hp.

Did you happen to order your 37PA with the larger engine and Allison MH3000 transmission? If you did, then there is no concerns with towing the F150. However, if you didn't, then the MH2500 transmission limits your maximum towing weight to 5000 lbs and the Edge would be the best choice.

For 2016/2017 they are all now the 360HP and 3000 Allison transmission.
