Trans com fail

Today I tried to start my 2017 Phaeton and rather than starting, it cranked but would not start. The display showed the message TRANS COM FAIL. Searching web and the IRV2 forums showed that this is an all too common problem.

I called Tiffin and the transferred me to Freightliner. Here is what I learned:

The error occurs as the engine tries to make sure the transmission is in neutral. When it cannot communicate with the transmission, this is the error message and the engine will not start.

Although I have read multiple posts about the problem and solving it with replacing a fuse, the tech at Freightliner said to try this:

Switch both the coach and chassis battery disconnect switches to off.
Disconnect a positive lead to the chassis batteries.
Wait 2-3 minutes.
Reconnect the lead and switch the disconnects to on.
Start the engine.
IT WORKED!

He said this procedure allows the electronics the reset to initial conditions.
