Transmission Stuck in Gear?

Strange road trip failure. After our first refueling we departed down the highway and the Transmission Warning Light came on and I was stuck in 3rd. Transmission temp was normal and no leaks detected after I pulled off the road, turned off the engine. I and restarted and all was well, no warnings. 200 miles later we were stuck in traffic on the freeway and the indication came on again and I was struck in 3rd. Pulled off the highway and repeated the same steps...now I'm getting an engine trouble light and my Allegra Red won't start? There are no broken belts, leaks, or anything out of the ordinary that I can see. Ideas of what the problem may be or what else to check?

The transmission is telling you that it's in extreme difficulty. Get to (or get towed to) a competent authorized transmission shop.

Pull the dipstick and see and smell the fluid. It should be pink and smell like oil. If it looks black and smells burnt, look for a trans shop.

All fluids are good. I'm at a Freightliner repair shop now...guess I'll find out what it is in the morning. This coach only has 8700 miles...I'm less than impressed with Tiffin's quality right now...this has not been the first issue.

Tiffin does have some QC issues, just like the other motorhome manufacturers. However, the Allison transmission is not one of them since it is not Tiffin's, neither was it installed by Tiffin.

Put your coach year, type, model, etc. in your signature and we'll be able to give you better help in the future.
And true what DeWat said. Freightliner did your rails, wheels, generator, motor, tranny, etc. Tiffin set the "box" on top of the rails.

I tried but the app wouldn't let me...went online and made the updates. Hope you can see it. Thanks.

Tiffin gets blamed for all the junk made today that is supposed to be the latest, greatest , bells and whistles for Motorhomes. Stuff isn't made too well in my opinion.

Is that for just tiffin or is that true with all coaches today? I may have to upgrade from this lemon if it keeps having issues.

Looks like you have an Allison 3000 tranny. You can retrieve a certain amount of tranny information using the keypad. Check this link for that. Also, I'd browse through the RVtech library. A wealth of information there. If you found out from freightliner what was going on, keep us in the loop. [emoji106]

Unless you buy a Spartan chassis motorhome, then chances are you are going to get the exact same chassis, engine and transmission you have now. You may have other issues, but the one you are describing now is not Tiffin's responsibility.

Freightliner may have solved the problem. Solenoid 3 in the transmission failed and we may be back on the road today.
