used Phaeton or new RED

There is currently a 2007 36' Phaeton for sale in my area on consignment. The lowest they will go on it is $139,000. Would you buy the Phaeton at this price or would you buy a new 36' Allegro RED? From what I read, a RED should be had for somewhere in the $150,000 range.

With the '07 most of your warranties have or are about to expire. It is also the heavier duty coach. It will have the 350 Cat with 850 ft lbs of torque and an Allison 3000 transmission, 10,000 tow capacity. The RED will have a 340 Cummins with 660 ft lbs of torque and the Allison 2500 transmission, 5,000 tow capacity. They both have 12,000 lbs front axles. The Phaeton has a 20,000 lb rear axle, the RED a 17,500 lb axle. Both are on a Freightliner chassis. Hopefully, the '07 will have all the "break-in" issues resolved. The RED will not - there will be some. Technology has improved over the last 3 years and allow for nicer fixtures now than were available in '07 for a given price range. Does the RED have the 15,000 BTU ACs w/heat pump or the 13,500s? You want the bigger ones.

I think you have a win/win situation no matter which you choose. Tiffin makes a fine coach and stands behind them like no one else.

You can check your chassis specs on Freightliner's site: FCCC Motorhome Chassis: Built on Freightliner and coach specs on Tiffin's site: Tiffin Motorhomes . Check them out and see what's important to you. If it would make you feel better, for the Phaeton you can probably still buy an extended 2 year warranty from Freightliner and you might still be able to get an extended warranty for the coach systems from Florida National or another warranty company.

Let us know what you decide and enjoy whichever you pick.
