I have a 2014 40 QBH. The water heater is located in the rear by the rear bath sink. When I turn on the faucet and run the hot water, you here a moan sound from the water heater. Is this normal? What can I do to eliminate the moan sound?

There is a one way check valve on the back of the water heater that is making the noise. You can replace the valve, but the new one might do the same. It's a vibration as the water flows through the valve causing the noise.

YEP.......HOT OUT check valve. Scale/Calcium build up or plunger/o-ring jamming

Moan, Chatter....hot out flow slowing down............FAILURE of check valve

Depending on which Model the check valve is internal of 'nipple' that is screwed into hot out (Top fitting) OR part of a 'mixing valve' component

I just replaced our back flow check valve. It is located under the sink in the rear bathroom in our 2015 Phaeton 40QBH. It is easy to remove the existing one, but takes a lot of work to get the new one back on. Make sure you know which way to re-install the new one, or you will get no hot water flow. I paid $10 at Burlington RV in Southern Wisconsin. Plumbers do not usually carry the exact item, but many RV dealers sell them. The water heater is accessible under a small carpeted shelf ( under the sink) just to the left of the sink. The carpeted shelf can be opened via a small hole in the carpet.

Good luck, it was hard for me to bend the PEX tubing to get the new valve screwed into the tube coming from the heater.
