It is probably the CD changer.

I had a Panasonic system in my Allegro Bus 2006 and the sub-woofer was located in the same place you are identifying. The sub-woofer has a red and a black wire connected to it.

The big black box in the cabinet under the dining table of the Allegro Bay we used to have was a sub-woofer for the Panasonic home theater system.

what is it

thanks to all. great insight on here, I am sure I will have plenty more questions as we wander on down the road. at present doing a few remods in the yard, taking out one couch to put in a couple of recliners and hopefully find a spot for small electric fireplace. had one in our fifth wheel and it sure came in handy during our summer trip to Wyoming first thing in the am to cut the chill.

You are going to have to upgrade your Panasonic some day and you are going to want to keep the sub-woofer right there. I upgraded to a Pioneer VSX 1124 and I mounted a car sub-woofer amplifier in the cabinet above the windshield on the passengers side to drive the Panasonic Sub-woofer. There are plenty of threads on this subject but your TVs and your Home Theater System will eventually have to be changed out. Here is a link from Mark Quasius who upgraded his. Tomorrow I am upgrading my TV in the bedroom and I will post the results on the upgraded thread at the beginning of this forum.
